The Kenyan Premier League June transfer window opens today at midnight as teams begin the scramble to beef up their squads ahead of the second leg.

The month-long transfer window is expected to witness heightened activity by the clubs, with some players facing the purge.

League strugglers Kenya Commercial Bank have already set the ball rolling by dropping four players namely Francis Ouma, Ezekiel Odera, Geoffrey Muhando and Congolese Koko Manopi.

Coach Rishadi Shedu said he was targeting a similar number of signings with a defender, striker, winger and midfielder being his priority.

“You can’t win when you are conceding goals and we have to be tight at the back if we are to improve our fortunes,” Shedu said in an interview with Saturday Nation Sport.

WISH LIST

The bankers on Wednesday conducted trials that attracted several players. Shedu said he is optimistic of landing some experienced players to infuse into his current squad.

Former Gor Mahia vice-captain Moses ‘Dube’ Odhiambo and burly forward Wycliffe Ochomo, formerly of Ulinzi Stars, top Shedu’s wish list.

“Most of the players I am targeting are free agents. There are those I am closing in on but at the moment there is no deal yet,” he said.

Ugandan national Ronnie Masuna and Tanzanian player Ali Kamata are among the players who turned up for the trials.

Meanwhile, Muhoroni Youth coach Francis Baraza is also keen on strengthening his squad.

“Off-loading is a normal exercise, same as signing new players, but you can’t overhaul the entire squad. I intend to strengthen the goalkeeping and striking departments,” Baraza said.

'EARMARKED FOR AXING'

The Scotland-trained coach who has transformed the side since he took charge after being sacked by Western Stima also intends to beef up his midfield to challenge for the title.

Elsewhere, the fate of Bandari strikers Kepha Aswani, Victor Ndinya and Bruno Sserunkuma hangs in the balance after head coach Twahir Muhiddin said he will bring on board three new strikers.

“There are three players I have earmarked for axing, but I cannot reveal their identity until we seal a deal,” said the tactician, whose squad has been ravaged by injuries.

Daniel Waweru, custodian Shaban Ouma and utility man Ezekiel Otuoma are yet to fully recover from injuries, but Baraza believes that the one-week rest will help them return quickly to full training.
