AFC Leopards can still 'win trophies' this season, says Marin

Thirteen-time Kenyan champions AFC Leopards can still have a successful 2017 season, incoming coach Dorian Marin has said.

Speaking to Nation Sport from his base in Latakia city in Syria on Friday, the 56-year-old Romanian exuded confidence of turning the team's fortunes. His arrival may however be delayed by Visa issues.

“My main goal will be to assess the strengths and weaknesses in the squad before finding solutions. I have watched the team's videos and I have some background information from Stewart (Hall),” Marin said.

Leopards have chalked up just four wins this season, managing only two points in the last six matches, a run that has seen them drop to 11th on the 18-team log with just 15 points after 12 rounds.

“He (Hall) is a great friend, gifted coach and an amazing person. We’ve just shared general information. Hopefully, we'll meet there before his departure and share everything needed,” the Uefa ‘A’ licensed coach said.

Leopards, winless in their last six matches, have moved swiftly to replace the former Sofapaka and Azam FC tactician with the Syrian Premier League side Tishreen SC boss.

“It’s true we’ve already found a new coach (Dorian Marin) who is expected in the country anytime soon. Hall will be in charge against Tusker thereafter hold talks concerning his exit terms,” club chairman Dan Mule told Nation Sport on Friday.

The Marin-led side is currently second on the 16-team Syrian league with 35 points, five behind leaders Jaish SC after 16 rounds.

Marin confirmed that he will bid goodbye to the Syrian club after their Saturday match against Majd.

Apart from the Syrian side, Marin has handled clubs in Ghana, Uganda and the Eritrea national team.
