Football Kenya Federation’s Annual General Meeting gets under way in Kisii Friday morning against the backdrop of intense lobbying from various players keen on influencing the agenda to their favour.

The meeting is expected to expose boundaries in the Kenyan football family as delegates seek to gain traction with members ahead of national elections in five months time.

In essence this AGM has been billed as a dress rehearsal for FKF polls in October-November.

Amid suggestions of voter bribery and intimidation, and fear of violence, some delegates have been keen to call for sober discussion.

FINANCIAL REPORT

“All we are calling for is peace and democracy during the AGM. Violence and chaos is a thing of the past. It shouldn’t happen at this function,” FKF’s Gusii sub branch chairman Stephen Kiama said.

The AGM is the highest decision making organ of the federation.

Thus all resolutions agreed by the 78 delegates from this meeting are binding to the Kenyan football family and also co-opted by the sport’s world governing body, Fifa.

All FKF officials will be attending their last AGM under the current office before – for those who so desire – seeking re-election.

The financial report, readmitting the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Limited into the FKF family, and pardoning senior suspended officials are some of important agenda in the AGM.

The AGM comes at a time when Kenya’s football is at one of its lowest level.

Harambee Stars have found the going tough while a disrupted domestic season has negatively affected the top tier clubs who feed the national team players.
