FKF Appeals Board to hear two petitions

What you need to know:

  • FKF Electoral Board secretary Irene Tindi on Thursday said that Nyanza South and Western branches petitions will be dealt with expeditiously.
  • She allayed fears that the appeals will delay the national elections scheduled.

The Football Kenya Federation Elections Appeals Board will convene a special meeting on Saturday to review two branch poll results appeals.

The deadline for submitting petitions elapsed on Wednesday and the Adan Mohamed-led committee will be rushing against time to make a ruling on the three cases before national elections next Wednesday.

FKF Electoral Board secretary Irene Tindi on Thursday said that Nyanza South and Western branches petitions will be dealt with expeditiously.

She allayed fears that the appeals will delay the national elections scheduled.

“The moment a complaint is filed at the appeals board, the electoral board cannot move on until the issues are fully resolved,” Irene told Daily Nation Sport.

“We are now awaiting word from the Appeals Board and the chairman has told us that they will hear the cases on Saturday.

“We don’t expect this to interfere with the dates of the national elections. There are only two cases and the Appeals Board can hear the cases and make a ruling on the same day. Once they deliver a ruling, we shall know the way forward.”

Petitioners in both the Western and Nyanza South claimed that the voters register that was used during the branch elections was faulty.

Another case yet to be determined is the Ijaara sub-branch case where Mohamed Dagani, Hamdi Noor, Shukri Abdi and Mohamed Hussein complained they were barred from voting.
