FKF PL, Azam TV sign Sh202m broadcast rights deal

Tanzania-based pay television upstarts Azam Media Limited on Friday announced a three-year broadcast rights partnership worth Sh202 million with Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The deal will see the 16 clubs in the newly formed FKF PL each receive grants worth Sh10 million annually.

Azam TV CEO Rhys Torrington promised to air at least two matches live on a weekly basis on their sports channels.

“We are keen to turn the sport into a great theatre by broadcasting as much football as we possibly can to Kenyans,” Torrington said during the official announcement in Nairobi yesterday.

“The exposure that comes with airing of matches on TV will play on the back of the players mind and motivate them to perform better.  I hope the administrators will use these resources effectively,”Kenya coach Bobby Williamson said.

Seven FKF PL matches are on the card this weekend.

Sunday – Posta Rangers vs Finlays (City), West Kenya vs Nairobi Stima (Bukhungu), Kariobangi Sharks vs Ligi Ndogo (City).
