Fantastic skipper Wanyama leads Southampton to Cup quarters

Victor Wanyama continues to set one record after another.
The gifted midfielder became the first Kenyan to play in the English Premier League when he signed for Southampton on July 11, 2013 from Scottish giants Celtic.
And on Wednesday night, Wanyama became the first Kenyan to captain an EPL side.
‘Big Vic’ wore the captain’s arm band as he led Southampton to a 2-1 victory over struggling Aston Villa at St Mary’s to storm to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.
Goals from Maya Yoshida and Graziano Pelle proved more than enough for Southampton.
However, for Wanyama, it was a nostalgic night leading his team mates and it speaks volumes of the faith his Dutch manager Ronald Koeman has in him.
Wanyama is also the first player from the region to score in the Uefa Champions League – a bullet header against Barcelona at Celtic Park on November 7, 2012 where Celtic won 2-1.
Last summer, the combative midfielder was heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane, home of Tottenham Hotspur, but the Saints thwarted the latter’s interest.
The 24-year old, who is also the Harambee Stars captain, is expected to play key role as Stars bid to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals to be held in Russia.
