Fifa rankings: Kenya's free fall continues

The effects of a 3-0 thrashing by Morocco in a friendly match and prolonged absence from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers have hit hard. Harder than earlier imagined as Kenya’s downward trend in the Fifa world rankings continues in the October.

Harambee Stars is currently ranked at position 116 following the rankings released on Thursday morning, five positions below last month's 111.

This is essence translates to the fact that Kenya is placed nearer to the bottom of the 209 member nations log that the top.

The country that was ranked 95th in August but an aggregate 0-1 loss to minnows Lesotho in the preliminary round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers led to an occasioned downward spiral with the country landing at position 111 in September.

The 2013 Cecafa champions have now taken a further dive deep into the murky waters and are below Haiti, who are 93rd globally.

Meanwhile, Kenya is placed sixth regionally, behind Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The picture dims even further for Bobby Williamson's team on the continental scene, as testified by a 34th placed ranking out 54 member nations.

Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Cape Verde Islands and Ghana top the charts in Africa, with World champions Germany, alongside 2014 World Cup losing finalists Argentina, and Colombia, Belgium and Netherlands forming the top five teams in the overall rankings.
