What you need to know:

  • Algeria is Africa's top ranked nation ahead of Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana.

Kenya improved by two places into position 114 on the latest Fifa rankings over the past month.

This development came despite inactivity by the national football team over that period. Instead, Harambee Stars, who lost 3-0 away to Morocco in their last assignment and are winless in all competitions since August, capitalised on the slump from neighbours Sudan and Bahrain to rise up the rankings.

According to the November Fifa rankings released Thursday by the World football governing body, Kenya fares way below average on the regional scene, coming fifth with the Cecafa set up, behind Uganda (78), Rwanda (90), Ethiopia (110) and Tanzania (112) in that order.

Algeria is Africa's top-ranked nation ahead of Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana.

On the global scene, world champions Germany retain the top position, with Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Netherlands and Brazil occupying the top five positions.
