Football Kenya Federation Electoral Board has finalised elections at the federation’s sub-branches and is preparing for the next phase at the branches on January 26.

Brian Weke, the director of Institute for Education and Democracy which has been handling the elections, yesterday said the agency is in possession of the results of elections carried out in all sub-branches countrywide and expressed optimism that the next phase will proceed without hitches.

“We have had repeat elections in all areas where earlier results were disputed, and we are hoping that there will be no more disputes, at least at this stage. The electoral board is committed to ensure that this process ends before the start of the 2016 league season and we are working within those timelines,” Weke said on Saturday.

The IED, a non profit-making organisation that aims at promoting democratic elections in Kenya, was appointed early last month by FKF to handle the federation’s elections under the watch of Football Kenya Federation Electoral.

The FKF elections Appeals Board had ordered a repeat of the exercise in three sub branches where initial results had been disputed. The electoral board also conducted by-elections in two more regions.

Sub branch elections in Baringo had ended in a tie, while the exercise aborted in Trans Nzoia West Sub Branch after a violent confrontation between two opposing factions. The exercise was repeated in these two areas as well as in Machakos, Nyahururu and Makadara.

Njogu Wamugunda beat Ochuku Buhari by 12 votes in Nyahururu to become the chairman of the sub-branch, while Harrison Njiri is the new secretary-general.
