Two hundred and eighty candidates will on Tuesday battle it out for various posts in Football Kenya Federation’s branch elections in various polling stations countrywide.

Tuesday’s stage is the second of a three-step process which will culminate in the election of the federation’s president on February 10.

The polls were meant to concluded last October but a series of logistical challenges forced FKF’s Electoral Board to postpone the exercise seven times at various stages in two months. The board’s spokesman Steve Mburu on Monday said everything is ready for the day-long activity.

“We’ve always been committed to providing credible elections, and I’m glad the day is here. There have been several challenges but these have taught vital lessons. I’m sure this time we shall have fewer complaints than we received during the sub-branch elections,” he said.

Mburu, however expressed concern over claims of bribery of delegates by some aspirants. Mburu has advised the board to take action against the individuals.

“Some candidates for the presidency are spending money taking voters to camping sites, cottages and hotels and buying them goodies to entice them to vote for them in the national elections. Such candidates will be disqualified from the elections,” Mburu said in a letter addressed to the board.

LIST OF CANDIDATES

On Monday, the board released the list of candidates, eligible clubs and their representatives who will take part in the exercise.

Aberdares, Nairobi West and Nyanza North branches have attracted the most number of aspirants, while elections in Upper Eastern attracted one candidate in each post.

Michael Ouma and Martin Chiseka will fight it out for the chairmanship of Nairobi East branch, while Athanasus Obala and Bashir Hussein, Geoffrey Sirma, Samuel Kihara and Mathews Opwora are seeking the chairman’s position in Nairobi West branch.

In Arberdares, John Muhu and Gordon Chege will fight it out for the chairmanship, as John Kamau and Kennedy Kimani battle it out for the secretary general’s position. Polling stations will open at 9am.
