Football fraternity mourns former Stars player Muturi

Former national football team player Peter Muturi is dead. Muturi, an attacking midfielder who played for local clubs Tusker FC, Re-Uinion, Mafuko Bombers and also turned out for Harambee Stars in the 1990s, was shot dead by thugs on Tuesday night in Utawala Estate in Nairobi County.

Muturi, 47, was in the company of his wife Lucy Wamboi and son Melvin Kanene were accosted by three armed thugs in their family car at their gate.

Muturi had alighted to open the gate to his home and was shot dead.

Police officers from the nearby Gitunguri Police Post rushed to the scene but it was too late as the thugs had escaped on foot.

His son and wife, who escaped unhurt, rushed him to St. Bakhita Dispensary where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was moved to Chiromo Mortuary.

According to the police report, the thugs stole nothing from the three. Former Football Kenya Federation CEO Michael Esakwa said he was saddened by the untimely death of Muturi - his former teammate. “He was humble, skilful and a peaceful person,” said Esakwa.
