Defending champions Tusker on Sunday claimed a big win after beating Muhoroni Youth 4-0 in a SportPesa Premier League match at Ruaraka grounds, Nairobi.

At the Mumias Sports Complex, league debutants Nakumatt beat Kakamega Homeboy 2-1 as relegation threatened Western Stima shared spoils with Thika United in a 1-1 draw in at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

It was Tusker who recorded the biggest win of the weekend, as Mike Khamati scored a brace while Humphrey Mieno and second half replacement Allan Wanga complemented him with a goal each.

Muhoroni were looking to build on their 4-3 win over Nakumatt last weekend and collect three points to help in their campaign against relegation, but this proved impossible.

To get to Nairobi, the Muhoroni had left western Kenya at 3am yesterday, and were understandably lethargic especially in the second half.

Khamati was first on the score sheets, collecting a cross from Jackson Macharia in the fourth minute before unleashing a thunderous shot past Muhoroni goalkeeper Salim Sowedi.

The brewers earned a penalty in the 39th minute when Jacob Faina handled the ball inside the box in an attempt to block Jackson Macharia’s shot. The lanky Mieno took responsibility and sent Sowedi the wrong way to double the scores for Tusker.

Khamati completed his brace in the 51st minute with a glancing header.

The fourth came in the 67th minute, another header from second half substitute Allan Wanga.

“I am thinking about resigning. The players are really suffering because of lack of finances and that is bringing a lot of inconsistency in their performance,” said new Muhoroni coach George Maina.
