For the first time first time since the second leg of the Kenyan premier League season started Gor Mahia fans and players alike for the left the City Stadium a disappointed lot after a frustrating barren draw with Red Berets that saw them fail to return to second spot in the league.

In Chemeli, bottom team Chemelil failed to impress again before home fans when visiting Sher Karuturi forced them to a barren at a pack Chemelil Sports Complex on Sunday.

Game-manship

Gor Mahia remained in fourth position with 38 points, four behind leaders Ulinzi Stars. Tusker are second with 40 points and Sofapaka 39.

The K’Ogalo faithful urged their players on for a goal but it was all in vain as the men on the pitch toiled hard but were unable to find away past the game-manship of the paramilitary side.

Four times in their last five games, Gor had scored within the first ten minutes but on Sunday things were different as the Red Berets defence stood tall with two players assigned to mark Gor danger man George “Blackberry” Odhiambo.

Baldwin Ngwa, who has scored thrice in Gor’s last three games preceding Sunday’s, was off colour as was Dan Makori who has been a key provider upfront.

Odhiambo had a golden chance to steal the three points for Gor but his tap went agonisingly wide while Kevin Omondi shot in the final minute of the game was parried for a fruitless corner.

Remain in contention

In the end coach Zedekiah Otieno was content with the single point but said his side remains in contention.

“Of course we are all frustrated. Red Berets came to waste time and in the end they achieved what they had set to do, get a point. But we hope to lift our game in the next match and keep the pressure in the race for the title,” said Otieno.

In Awendo, Dennis Onkangi scored a double as Sony Sugar piled more problems for Kenya Commercial Bank with a 2-0 win.

Onkangi scored his first in the 28th minute of the game and added the second eight minutes after the breather but the sugarmillers remained in the ninth spot with 28 points.
