Gor Mahia set up another derby against bitter rivals AFC Leopards on Sunday with a win over Muhoroni Youth in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup quarter-finals.

K’Ogalo won 4-1 on post-match penalties.

The semi-final matches of the competition have been planned for next weekend. Sofapaka and Tusker meet in the other semi-final game.

AFC Leopards had beaten Karuturi Sports 4-1 on Saturday to sail through but Gor did not find it easy against Muhoroni.

After battling to a barren draw, Gor were made to wait for the penalties to confirm a place in the last four.

Muhoroni made life difficult for Gor at City Stadium, defending well and getting a few chances but could not score. Rama Salim, Dan Sserenkuma and Moses Odhiambo missed open chances in the game.

K’Ogalo dominated and were the stronger side in midfield and attack, with Kevin Omondi getting past Muhoroni defenders several times but he lacked the cutting edge.

In the penalties, Gor were the more confident side. Rama Salim, Moses Odhiambo, Yusuf Juma and Sserenkuma netted for K‘Ogalo while George Midenyo hit the crossbar.

Hungry for titles

Despite struggling to see off Muhoroni, Gor’s technical bench was happy with the result but not the performance.

“We are happy to move on, but we did not play well. We should have killed the game early, but this is football. At times you get it easy, at times you have to struggle,’’ said Gor coach Zdravko Logarusic.

Next weekend, Leopards have an opportunity to avenge their 2-1 league defeat to Gor. Defending champions Gor head to the derby unbeaten in 19 games in all competitions.

Already, Gor have silverware, the KPL Top Eight title, but Logarusuc insists he wants to win all titles available.

Tusker and Sofapaka meet in the other semi final. Sofapaka struggled to beat Kenya Revenue Authority 2-1 on Saturday, while Tusker yesterday beat Talanta 2-0 with goals from David Nyanje and Joseph Emeka.

Nyanje was on target in the first half, while Emeka scored with his first touch of the ball midway through the second-half.
