The stellar performance by Gor Mahia Youth in the Nairobi County Zone C League tells a success story in the face of adversity.

The financial challenges dogging the senior side has on many occasions led to late payment of winning bonuses.

With money in short supply, running a junior side has been a difficult enterprise for K’Ogalo.

But despite the odds, Gor have gone ahead to create a robust under-19 side that took the Nairobi County League Zone C by storm winning all their matches except one in their debut season.

The K’Ogalo fledgelings finished the campaign unbeaten to clinch top position on 28 points out of a possible 30 points, 12 ahead of second placed Terror Squad FC.

METEORIC RUN

After their meteoric run in the County League they will fancy their chances of playing in the Provincial League next season. They have a play-off to take care of on March 31 to earn that right.

From enterprise to breath taking play the K’Ogalo Youth side has proved a hard nut to crack for opponents. Their head coach Zablon “Pro” Otieno believes that his young charges are ripe for league action.

“I applaud my players. They have shown real maturity, discipline and professional attitude. I always tell them that they can play for any senior side in the league and there is no doubt about that. If any of them is fielded in the senior side, I will not face the embarrassment of swallowing my words.

“Under difficult circumstances they have always given their best. There is no single day that any of them has skipped training. We are just calling on fans and possible sponsors to come on board and support the noble project,” he said.

WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE

The Gor Mahia legend who offered distinguished service to K’Ogalo in his hey days adds that  his  priority is to win their play- off match and to ensure the club’s conveyor belt continues to churn all-round, moulded players .

“We are the club’s feeder programme and we want to ensure that we churn out quality players that can make the club stand out.”

The youngsters’ eye catching performances has already caught the attention of senior team head coach Frank Nuttall who has drafted four of them for tomorrow’s friendly match against Inter City.

The quartet are captain Elias “Apache” Otieno (defender) Teddy Osok, Clifford Nyakeya and Amos Nondi (all midfielders) .

Club Chief Executive Ludovick Aduda, while stressing the need of fans support, noted that setting up the junior team had come with a lot of financial challenges.

“We don’t get any gate collection from the junior team’s matches and it has been  a nightmare meeting our financial obligations.”
