Gor Mahia have commenced contract extension talks with their coach Bobby Williamson.

The 53-year-old’s current contract with the league champions expires in December but the champions are keen to extend that arrangement for another year, according to the club secretary general Chris Omondi.

Omondi also confirmed that the club has not received any official approach from the national football team handlers over the tactician’s services.

“The only official approach for him (Williamson) was from (Tanzanian club) Simba SC which we rejected outright. So he is still with the team and in fact we are looking into bettering his contract because he has impressed us with the way he has handled our project,” Omondi said.

Williamson was on August 5 widely reported to have been appointed Harambee Stars coach replacing Belgian Adel Amrouche.

Williamson, who enjoyed a successful playing stint at English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, on Monday said that the Harambee Stars position was “‘not vacant”.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

“As far as I am concerned, Adel (Amrouche) is still Harambee Stars coach and it is therefore wrong for me to comment about the possibility of assuming his role,” the former Uganda Cranes coach said.

Fifa licensed agent Ivan Modia Wednesday explained the lawful circumstances under which Williamson be allowed to manage Harambee Stars under his current circumstances.

“The authorities first need to approach his club (Gor Mahia) and get an agreement with them to get their coach released – in this particular case to get the coach released for free as the authorities don’t normally have money for compensation.

“Then they proceed and agree other details including personal terms with the coach.”

Modia, who is attached to renowned global football marketing company Extra Time S.L in Barcelona, Spain, manages Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama amongst other top professionals.

Williamson was appointed Gor Mahia coach in June last year.
