The combination of teenage sensation Eric “Marcelo” Ouma and Rwandan scoring machine Jacques Tuyisenge demolished Thika United as Gor Mahia beat Thika United 2-1 in a league match at the Thika County Stadium on Sunday.

In Machakos, Tusker edged battling Posta Rangers 1-0 to reclaim leadership of the table standings.

Noah Wafula poked home the lone goal of the match midway through the first half in a move that also involved Michael Khamati to stretch the brewers’ points tally to 32 at the summit of the log.

Mathare United, who had on Saturday squeezed a slender 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars, now drop to position two on 30 points.

In Thika, it was an exciting game as the record 15-time champions continued with their charge for a fourth straight title.

Ouma, who recently penned a six- month contract extension at K’Ogalo, was the star of the show in a dominant first half, delivering  the two crosses that Tuyisenge nodded in.

NEAT DELIVERY

The teenager used his wit in the 13th minute to beat his marker Suleiman Ngotho before swinging in a neat delivery, which Tuyisenge headed in with aplomb.

Ouma was at it again five minutes later, charging from down the left to feed the Rwandan marksman, who again beat Martin Elungat in Thika’s goal.

With his double goals, Tuyisenge hauled his tally to eight, three shy of top scorer, Muhoroni Youth’s Wycliffe Ochomo, who has 11.

The game continued swinging from end to end, with Thika struggling to get their foot into the midfield.

A lapse in concentration four minutes before the break rattled Gor as Thika’s Eugene Mukangula beat K’Ogalo’s veteran goalkeeper Jerim Onyango.

Gor coach Jose Ferreira made changes, with Ouma being shifted to the attacking left role creating room for Abouba Sibomana at left back, and the plan worked.

After the breather, Thika coach James Nandwa brought in striker Salim Mzee in a  bid to salvage a point but Gor guarded their lines, leaving no room for error.

“We did not play well. We failed to deal with the crosses and that explains why we conceded,” Nandwa said after the game.

Ferreira was, however, happy with the victory. He said: “It was a good game. Eric (Marcelo) brings a lot of qualities and I’m pleased with his show.”
