Gor Mahia on Saturday tightened their grip on the SportPesa Premier League top spot with a 2-0 win over Muhoroni Youth at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge and George “Blackberry” Odhiambo scored a goal apiece to help K’Ogalo to their 11th win of the season, the most by any of the 17 other teams so far this season.

Kariobangi Sharks suffered their second successive loss in the league after going down 2-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz at the Mumias Sports Complex in the other match of the day.

The other match scheduled for Saturday pitting Ulinzi Stars against Nakumatt was postponed after it emerged the Afraha Stadium had been booked for a political function.

Wycliffe Opondo and Jeremiah Wanjala struck for Kakamega Homeboyz as Masousd Juma’s goal was sandwiched between the two strikes.

It was the third consecutive league win in a week for K’Ogalo, but it also announced the return to form of diminutive striker George Odhiambo who has now scored twice in the last three games.

STARTED STRONGLY

The 15-time champions started strongly and dominated all aspects of the match, with Meddie Kagere hitting the back of the net after just six minutes but his strike was ruled offside.

Tuyisenge opened the scoring in the 40th minute in the match with a goal that brought back memories of his equaliser against Everton last month in Tanzania.

The Rwanda national team captain, who also scored against Nakumatt three days ago, rose high in the 40th minute to head in from a corner floated by left winger Godfrey Walusimbi, to ensure the 15-time champions head into the break 1-0 up.

In a bid to reverse his quickly dwindling fortunes in the match, Muhoroni coach Gilbert Selebwa tried to tweak his squad in the second half by bringing in Bliss Kityo and Francis Oduor for Hassan Kiyoyi and Fred Ochieng.

The hosts however intensified their attack and in the 78th minute, Odhiambo beat Muhoroni custodian Salim Sowedi in a one-on-one situation to guarantee K’Ogalo all three points.

The win moved Dylan Kerr's charges four points clear atop the standings. Second-paced Posta Rangers could reduce the gap with a win on Sunday when they face Nzoia Sugar at the Sudi Stadium.
