Gor Mahia opened up a four-point gap at the summit of the Kenyan Premier League table after putting up a master class performance to beat Chemelil Sugar 2-0 at City Stadium on Saturday.

In Mumias, AFC Leopards were held to a 2-2 by KCB while Bandari also settled for a 1-1 draw with Western Stima in Mombasa.

The win took K’Ogalo’s points tally to 47 from 24 matches although second-placed Sofapaka could narrow the gap to a single point should they beat Muhoroni Youth on Sunday in Machakos.

Red hot Dan Sserunkuma was in his destructive element in the match at City Stadium striking either side of half time for Gor Mahia. It was Gor’s best performance so far under their new Scottish coach, Frank Nuttall and it did enough to underline their title credentials.

Chemelil’s defence found it hard to cope with the speed of Gor’s upfront partnership of Sserunkuma and the 2010 Player of the Year George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo.

But the sugar millers were unlucky to concede on the stroke of half time after squandering their chances earlier on. The chance fell on the unmarked Sserunkuma he beat Jairus Adira in Chemelil’s goal with a looping header.

BEAUTY OF A GOAL

His second strike in the 56th was a beauty of a goal. After being put through by Odhiambo, Sserunkuma charged forward with great composure before slotting in past Adira to send Gor Mahia fans to a frenzy.

The brace stretched the Ugandan striker’s goal tally to 12 and now places him as the front runner for the Golden Boot at the end of the season.

“The players were fantastic today and it’s a good feeling to winning this match,” Nuttall said after the match.

In Mumias, Leopards were forced to rally from two goals down for a 2-2 draw with a determined KCB. The bankers went ahead in the 12th minute through on-form Ronald Musana before Kassim Mohammed stretched the advantage six minutes later.

Ingwe pulled one goal back in the 45th minute through speedy forward Noah Wafula and Austin Ikenna came off the bench to spare them the blushes with a stoppage time equaliser.

Bandari were also denied victory by the visiting Western Stima in a dull match played at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa. The hosts got off the blocks with a goal in the fifth minute through defender Andrew Waiswa but Stima left in late for a share of the spoils courtesy of Fredrick Shimonyo’s effort.

Bandari captain Raphael Okello started in a striking role in the absence of Kepha Aswani.

Crispin Odula was introduced at the interval to stabilise Bandari’s midfield but their strikers’ wastefulness cost them victory.
