“The tournament will be a useful gauge of our development as a team. It is a good thing that the league is going on because this ensures that the players will be in good shape.

“We have set ourselves a modest target; we simply want to make it past the preliminary stage,” Nuttall said.

Last year, K’Ogalo didn’t make it out of their group after losing to KCCA (Uganda) and Atletico Olympic (Burundi). They then drew with Djibouti Telecom and APR Rwanda.

The 14-time league champions have been pooled alongside hosts Yanga, Djibouti Telecom and Sudan’s Al Khartoum where their former midfielder Anthony “Teddy” Akumu currently plies his trade.
