Green Commandos overwhelm Mukumu in Kakamega games

National champions Kakamega High on Saturday thrashed rivals Mukumu Secondary 6-0 in the final of boy’s football to retain the title during Kakamega County secondary schools Term Two ‘B’ games held in Butere.

The victors dominated from the first whistle, with Kakamega’s Alfred Wekesa snatching the opener in the 10th minute. Eric Ouma doubled the scores in the 26th minute for a 2-0 half-time lead. After the breather, Kakamega High, popularly known as “Green Commandos” scored more goals through Wekesa, Apollo Wekesa, Allred Wekesa and Moses Mwangi.

“It was a tough game but I congratulate the boys for putting up a strong fight against our opponents,” said Kakamega coach Branden Mwinamo. His Mukumu counterpart Dennis Munyendo conceded defeat. “My boys played well but they could not convert the scoring chances into goals,” Munyendo said.

Ibinzo Girl’s hit national champions Butere Girls 1-0 in the final of girls’ football with a goal in extra time from Karongo Owina. Ibinzo appeared at the national stage in 2012 when they were eliminated in the preliminaries. Yesterday, it was a sad exit for Butere Secondary School who defeated Bishop Njenga 1-0 in the 2014 county finals and went ahead to reach the national level where they knocked out by St John’s Kaloleni 2-1 in Kakamega.

VOLLEYBALL CONTEST

In boys’ volleyball final, national champions Malava beat rivals Mautuma Secondary 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-21) to retain the title. In the girls’ category, the 2014 national runners-up Malava Girls Secondary saw off Mautuma Secondary 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 22-25, 15-8) to take the title.

In the semis, Malava Girls had defeated Emalindi Secondary School 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) as Mautuma beat Kogo 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) to reach the final.
