The national women’s team will face the Falcons of Uganda in a friendly match scheduled for Sunday at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

The Harambee Starlets, who have been camping at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani for the past one week, left for Kisumu by road Friday morning.

Starlets coach David Ouma on Friday told Saturday Nation Sport that the team is well prepared for the match.

“I thank the federation for making this happen. Team work is very important and this chance to come together is very valuable since we have a big assignment come November,” said Ouma.

“We had eight training sessions with the team so far and unlike two months ago when the players were having serious fitness challenges, they have improved tremendously and a lot of that has to do with the revival of the women’s national league.”

“We are ready to face Uganda and I hope we will win the match so that the players can gain even more confidence,” Ouma added.

The federation has indicated that this will be the first of a series of build-up matches to help the team prepare for the African Women's Cup of Nations which will be held in Cameroon from November 19 to December 3.

"DOGO" OUT

New call ups Lucy Mukhwana and Purity Nyongesa made the travelling squad that will face Uganda, although the team will be without striker Mwanalima “Dogo” Adam who is concentrating on her O-Level studies.

A week after Sunday’s friendly match, the Starlets will travel to Spain for an invitational tournament that will be played from July 31.

The women will then travel to Germany where three friendly matches with the women’s Bundesliga sides have been lined up for them courtesy of the Germany Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tickets will be sold outside the stadium on match day, with VIP tickets going for Sh500 as the terrace tickets retail Sh200.
