Bobby Williamson takes charge of his first assignment as Harambee Stars head coach today against Egypt in a friendly match Saturday.

Armed with a squad of 20 players, the Scott left for Egypt on Friday morning to honour the friendly which is expected to give local football supporters a taste of what he will bring to the national team after a terrible campaign under former coach Adel Amrouche.

Harambee Stars were cruelly bundled out of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers early last month and spirits are low as they take on the North Africans.

Williamson has, however, said that he will test the strength of local based players during the match.

FOREIGN STARS MISSING

“The absence of foreign-based players will however give the local players an opportunity to fight for their place in the national team and make a name for themselves,” Williamson said.

Williamson’s team will be without his former club players, as they have not had a chance to train with the rest of the squad due to club duties.

El Mereikh’s Allan Wanga and Anthony Akumu who also plies his trade in the Sudanese league will join the squad in Egypt.

Williamson has sought the inclusion of the on-fire AFC Leopards winger Noah Wafula to increase speed and power upfront, where his fellow team mate Jacob Keli and Wanga are expected to lead the strike force. Tusker’s Aboud Omar is likely to cover the backline, with help from Sony Sugar’s Charles Odette and Ingwe’s Jackson Saleh.

The Scott has many options in the midfield where Akumu, Brian Osumba, David King’atua and Geoffrey Kataka, Clifton Miheso and Humphrey Mieno are all fit for selection.
