  • Wario says the delay in releasing the report is causing unnecessary anxiety among stakeholders in local football.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario has ordered the Football Kenya Federation to immediately make public a report released by world football governing body Fifa.

Wario on Friday said the delay in releasing the report, compiled by Fifa representative Robert Niemann after holding talks with FKF and Kenyan Premier League Limited, is causing unnecessary anxiety among stakeholders in local football.

In a letter sent to FKF on Friday, Wario accused FKF of "keeping the contents of the FIFA letter secret." Wario said the federation "has refused to share the contents of the letter even with the Ministry of Sport".

“It has come to my attention that the report by the FIFA consultant has not been made available to any of the concerned parties, including the Sports Ministry. This is to request you to release the above report immediately to all the concerned parties without further delay,” Wario’s letter to FKF read.

Niemann was among three officials sent to Kenya in December last year to hold talks with FKF and KPL regarding the composition of the local football league.

LEAGUE RENAMED

At the same time, FKF has stripped the Kenyan Premier League Limited all rights of organizing the top flight league, and have promised to name a sponsor of their planned 18-team league next week.

This was among the resolutions arrived at after FKF’s Special General Meeting attended by all 18 FKF delegates in Kakamega.

FKF has also said its National Executive Council will discuss modalities of running a new-look FKF Premier League with broadcast partner SuperSport and title sponsors Tusker.

FKF said the new-look 18-team premier league would kick off on February 14 and would involve Nakumatt FC and Kakamega Homeboyz.

The delegates who attended Friday’s meeting agreed that all existing sponsors, partners and affiliates of the Kenyan Premier League Limited would be accommodated in the new structure and that the league sponsor would meet the cost of hiring match venues and paying club officials.
