A late Humphrey Mieno screamer was not enough to save the SportPesa All Stars who emerged 2-1 losers against a select Hull City side in a friendly match at a rain-soaked KCOM Stadium in Kingston on Monday.

A second half own goal from defender Harun Shakava proved costly for the Kenyan team who had been promised a cash award of Sh1.1 million had they beaten the English Premier League side.

Hull City were one goal up courtesy of Elliot Holmes 11th minute strike.

Coach Stanley Okumbi paraded his best players for the match, starting with four defenders and Tusker forward Allan Wanga leading the strike force.

The hosts however, presented only five players from the senior team namely Josh Tymon, Greg Olley, Max Sheaf, Greg Luer and Jarrod Bowen.

Old boy Dean Windass, whose performance in 2008 helped the team gain promotion into the premier league, was also named as a substitute in the match and played the game's last 25 minutes.

KENYANS APPEARED NERVOUS

The Kenyans, who appeared nervous and overwhelmed in the opening moments of the game, sprang to life towards the end of each half.

Despite a shaky start, striker John Mark Makwatta and midfielder Osborne Monday had a terrific day on the pitch, and the latter was named Man of the Match at the end of it all.

All Stars fell conceded the first goal in the 11th minute when Holmes rose high to head in the long ball past a stationary goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.

Mieno then came with All Stars' best moment just minutes to the end of the match with a terrific shot that has now earned him the Sh100,000 cash award for any goal scored.

There was a ten minute stoppage in the first quarter of the match as Hull City's Max Sheaf received treatment inside the pitch.

The 16-year old Sheaf had collided with Kenya's Wesley Onguso as they vied for the ball in the ninth minute, and was stretched off the pitch before being rushed to hospital.
