Humphrey Mieno and Clifford Alwanga struck in the second half as champions Tusker rallied from a goal down to beat Nakumatt 2-1 in a charged SPortPesa Premier League match at Afraha Stadium on Wednesday.

Six minutes into the match, the league newcomers grabbed the opener after Boniface Akenga dispossessed Shafik Batambuze in the danger area and laid a square pass to Kepha Aswani who in turn unleashed a thunderbolt past Tusker goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng.

Nakumatt held on to go for the break leading 1-0. Ten minutes after the break, Tusker coach George Nsimbe summoned Clifford Alwanga for the off colour Allan Wanga.

The former KCB man repaid Nsimbe’s faith in him with a bullet header to level the scores with 15 minutes to the final whistle.

Minutes before the equaliser, Nsimbe had rested Jackson Macharia for the enterprising Tanzanian teenager Abdul Hassan.

Nakumat coach Anthony Mwangi brought in David Gateri and Eric Ochieng for John Njoroge and Boniface Akenga respectively as both teams went all out in search for an equaliser.

Two minutes after Alwanga’s glancing header, Mieno gave the brewers the lead when he soared high to head home from close range which they held on for their second win of the season.

"I am satisfied with the result and this is a morale booster for us ahead of our next match against Muhoroni Youth away this weekend," said coach Nsimbe.

Mwangi rued memory lapse in the second half and slammed the match officials after the match.

"We lacked concentration in the last quarter of the game, coupled with poor officiating which denied us victory," Mwangi said.
