The Nairobi lawyer garnered 579 votes in the elections held at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani. Businessman Dan Oketch was second with 220 votes and former Gor Secretary General Chris Omondi came third with 157 votes.
This is Rachier’s fourth successive term in office, having been first elected in 2008 making him one of the longest serving chairman of Gor.
While Omondi conceded defeat and promised to continue supporting the club and the newly elected officials, Oketch appeared unhappy with the results. There are reports he may lodge a complaint following the poll loss.
Oketch alleged that he may have lost because more than 1,000 voters were struck off the list for failing to meet certain requirements of the elections.
Former Assistant Secretary General David Kiilo was the other biggest casualty, as he lost his bid for the second vice chairman’s position to George Ong’udi who collected 437 votes. Kiilo got 332 votes.
Outgoing treasurer Kennedy Ouma also fell flat. He lost spectacularly to Sally Bollo who garnered 370 votes to his 95 votes.
Judith Anyango, a vocal supporter of the Gor youth team won with a landslide 575 votes against David Nyangega in the organising secretary’s race.
