Gor Mahia striker Michel Olunga has said that he will not be distracted by speculation over his future as he has a binding contact with the league champions.

Olunga, 21, has been a subject of speculation in the past couple of weeks after impressive performances in the Cecafa Club Championship and in an interview with Nation Sport after the team's arrival from Dar es Salaam on Monday, the lanky striker said that his priority is to keep working hard and help Gor claim their third consecutive league title.

“I have a contract with Gor and I don’t know much about the offers,” said the Geospatial Engineering student. “I just want to concentrate on our target and aim for the league.”

Olunga’s stock has risen after his five goals in Dar helped the Kenyan giants to a runners up finish as well as securing him the golden boot.

Tanzanian giants Simba and Yanga have all been keen on luring him from K’Ogalo’s stable but it remains to be seen if he will ditch the 14-time champions before the end of the current campaign.

SLOW PROGRESS

As speculation persists over his future, analysts have been quick to point out that he needs to be exported to modest European leagues such as Belgium and Sweden so as to get a firm foundation.

Prior to making the big break in the international arena, Harambee Stars skipper Victor Wanyama, for instance horned his skills at Belgian side Germinal Beerschot for three seasons before making the big leap to Celtic in Scotland and later Southampton in the English Premier League.

Since joining Gor at the beginning of this term on a one-year loan deal from Liberty Sports Academy, Olunga has so far plundered 20 goals: 12 in the league, five in the Cecafa Kagame Cup and three with the national U23 team.

Prior to linking up with the Kenyan giants, Olunga had turned out for Tusker and Thika United on loan deals.
