Gor Mahia are through to the final of the Kenyan Premier League Top 8 Knockout tournament after edging Tusker 1-0 on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium in their return leg semi-final match.

K’Ogalo advanced on a 3-0 aggregate after thrashing the brewers 2-0 in the first leg.

The defending league champions set up a final date with Muhoroni Youth, who drew 1-1 with Ulinzi Stars. Muhoroni sailed through on the away goal rule.

Francis Kahata’s free kick at the stroke of half-time left Tusker goalkeeper David Okello bewildered, as the enthusiastic Green Army rose to their feet in celebration.

The goal exuded class, evoking memories of a similar one Kahata scored away to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Calabar during a 2013 World Cup qualifier.

SOUNDED WARNINGS

Earlier, Gor had sounded warnings through Jacques Tuyisenge’s looping header and free kick, which failed to hit the target.

Tusker coach Paul Nkata made wholesale changes, bringing in six new faces from last Sunday’s squad. Humphrey Mieno, Collins Shivachi, Osborne Monday and Noah Wafula were benched.

In their places came Lloyd Wahome, Cersidy Lumumba, Hashim Sempala, Robert Omunuk and Stephen Owusu, but the brewers still lacked the guile.

In the other 2pm semi-final, Abdalla Hamisi finished off a Wycliffe Nyangechi free kick with a header in the 22nd minute to take Muhoroni through.

Ulinzi went level late in the contest through Churchill Muloma in the 79th minute, but it was too little too late.
