AFC Leopards striker Jacob Keli is the Kenyan Premier League Fans' Player of the Month for May.

The Kenyan international was on Thursday handed the trophy and Sh10,000 cash prize at the SuperSport offices in Nairobi by KPL CEO Jack Oguda.

Keli amassed 6,170 votes in an online poll conducted by Soka to beat in form Gor Mahia custodian Boniface Oluoch (3,649 votes), Mathare United youngster Eric Johanna (485 votes), former Sofapaka forward Fiston Abdoul (42 votes) and Western Stima goalkeeper Gabriel Andika (19 votes).

An elated Keli thanked the fans for voting for him in the hotly contested award.

“I’m very delighted to win this award and I want to thank all those who voted. It’s a good initiative and it proves our local league is getting better,” Keli said.

ABONDO THE PIONEER

Keli becomes the second player to win the award, after Gor Mahia’s Ali Abondo clinched the gong in March.

There was no award in April as the former platform that initiated the award scheme, KPL CHAT was in the process of rebranding to Soka.
