What you need to know:

  • The brewers set the tempo early on in the opening half with Were, defender Aboud Omar and midfielder Brian Osumba coming close to give the Francis Kimanzi-led Tusker the lead but could not find the back of the net.

Kenyan international forward Jesse Were and Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho scored a goal each in the second half as Tusker handed Ushuru FC their eighth successive loss in the Kenyan Premier League at Kasarani on Friday.

Were capitalised on an horrific blunder by the Ushuru goalkeeper Philip Odhiambo - who misjudged Osborne Monday's looped ball - to tap home into an empty net just three minutes after the restart before Aucho drilled home from 30 yards with a shot that went in off the post with 10 minutes to the final whistle.

Following the win, the brewers opened a four-point gap on fourth-placed Ulinzi Stars as they await the IDAC's decision on their abandoned match against Muhoroni Youth.

The brewers set the tempo early on in the opening half with Were, defender Aboud Omar and midfielder Brian Osumba coming close to give the Francis Kimanzi-led Tusker the lead but could not find the back of the net.

Defender Aboud Omar almost tipped the scales in the 13th minute after collecting a ball in the left side of the pitch, but his hastily taken shot was only good for the side-netting.

Were also forced goalkeeper Philip Odhiambo to a point blank save two minutes later after capitalising on a defensive mix up in the Ushuru box but his screamer was blocked by Odhiambo.

But the taxmen didn't make things easy for the brewers. Muhammad Hassan and club top scorer Roosevelt Blatty tested Duncan Ochieng on numerous occasions, the former releasing a wonderful shot from the middle of the pack, but the former Sofapkaa keeper was equal to the task.

Hassan had a shot wide in the 22nd minute with the see-saw battle continuing until the end of the first half, after which the visitors returned stronger and began their onslaught.

The second half was an all-Tusker affair, with the taxmen constantly forced in the back pedal to clear dangerous shots from the brewers.
