KPL transfers shrouded in secrecy as FKF releases list

Financial figures that were traded between clubs in the just concluded transfer window remain secret even as the final list of transfers was released on Thursday by Football Kenya Federation.

This is contrary to previous years where the transfer fees dished out in the acquisition of players were made public immediately after the closure of each transfer window.

Already, a dispute between arch-rivals AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia has come to the fore concerning the signing of striker Vincent Oburu.

The former AFC Leopards Under-20 player penned a two-year deal with Ingwe and has been training with the senior team, but the Gor Mahia claim that he signed a four-year contract with the club and have vowed to take action.

Addressing the issue, FKF Communications Officer Barry Otieno said that he was acting on the request from the two clubs, more so Gor Mahia, who did not want the amounts disclosed.

“It is the clubs that requested that we keep the transfer amounts private. There are clubs who even wrote letters and after consulting widely, we realised that no club is compelled to make public the amounts they have spent,” said Otieno.

“We shall keep consulting and once we reach consensus we shall let you know.”

Meanwhile, Muhoroni Youth and Western Stima recorded the highest number of signings during the two-month transfer period, roping in 20 and 18 players respectively.

Muhoroni Youth have however suffered the highest number of exits, as 16 players terminated their contracts with the club after their salaries and allowances were delayed.

Caf Confederation Cup representatives Ulinzi Stars were however the least active club in the preseason window promoting Alex Masinde from their junior side Ulinzi Warriors and roping in winger Baron Oketch on loan from Gor Mahia.
