Former national secondary school football champions Kakamega High School will be aiming to reclaim past glory when they host the Airtel Rising Stars National Secondary Term 2B games next week.

The Green Commandos, as they are fondly known, will be making a return to the national championships after a six-year absence. They last won the national crown back in 2008, when they beat Waa Secondary School from Mombasa County.

In 2009, they not only lost the provincial final but were also banned for three years for indiscipline.

They made their return last year after serving the ban but lost in the regional finals to Mautama High School. But they were not to be denied this year.

UNBEATEN RUN

They beat Chavakali High School 3-0 in the final to cap off an impressive unbeaten run during which they scored 30 goals from the County level up to the Regional stage.

In the absence of outgoing champions Upper Hill School, the Green Commandos, who are 10-time national champions, will start as hot favourites.

But coach Bened Mwinamo has warned his charges to remain focused and not underestimate their opponents. “The national games are usually very tricky and we will approach every game with caution,” Mwinamo told Daily Nation Sport.
