Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday stunned Bandari 1-0 in a SportPesa Premier League match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

At the Chemelil Sports Complex, Sofapaka bounced back from two consecutive defeats to beat hosts Chemelil Sugar 1-0.

Ulinzi Stars secured a 2-1 win over Muhoroni Youth in Afraha while Western Stima ended a nine-match winless run with a 3-2 win over Mathare United in Kisumu.

It was a well-deserved victory for the league’s new comers, as they dominated proceedings during the match.

Bandari put up a lethargic performance throughout, and managed just one shot on target in the entire first half and another one in the second period.

Ugandan winger Odongo struck a beauty in the match. The former Tusker player weaved his way past Felly Mulumba and Duncan Otewa before unleashing a low shot that beat Bandari custodian Wilson Obungu for the opener.

The Dockers, now chasing the match, responded by replacing Jacob Keli and Tyrone Wambani with Enoch Agwanda and John Avire respectively but Sharks stood firm at the back.

Bandari coach Paul Nkata blamed the congestion of fixtures for his team's shoddy performance, saying that fatigue worked against them.

It was something that Sharks' tactician William Muluya agreed with, but lauded his boys for their resilience during the game.

"We have three points but it was a struggle. Endurance is what helped us today. You could see that the boys were struggling especially in the second half but they kept going,” said Muluya.

"We have been winning by such slim margins but I am contented. We shall now continue working hard and try to win more games."

At Afraha Stadium, Samuel Onyango bagged a brace as Ulinzi Stars beat Muhoroni Youth 2-1 in an exciting match to move within a point of leaders Gor Mahia and second placed Posta Rangers – who have 22 points but are separated by goal difference.

The leading duo however has a chance of getting some breathing space as Gor face Nzoia Sugar away in Mumias while Posta welcome Nakumatt at Afraha on Sunday.

Thomas Venval struck at the death but the soldiers held on to win. The result ensured they maintain their third spot on the log.

"I am happy we won. It is our second win in a row and a morale booster as we face Posta Rangers next week," said Nyangweso.
