Kawangware United were officially crowned Sportpesa Super 8 Premier League champions at a colourful ceremony at Camp Toyoyo, Nairobi on Sunday.

The new champions had just been held to an entertaining 3-3 draw by hosts Jericho.

The West Conference champions won the second edition of this grassroots event after attaining 66 points out of a possible 90 to top the 16-team league standings.

Kayole Asubuhi from the East Conference won the inaugural edition last year. So dominant were Kawangware that they in fact sealed the championship with two matches to spare.

They went home with Sh1 million in prize money courtesy of tournament title sponsors SportPesa and tournament organizers Extreme Sports Limited.

After two successful season as the lead partners of the championship, Africa’s leading online gaming platform SportPesa assured the organisers of their commitment towards supporting the grassroots football league.
