  • Defending champions Waa Boys High School also got a rude shock losing 3-2 to Ramisi Secondary in another encounter at the same venue.

Kaya Tiwi Secondary humbled hosts Msambweni Secondary School 2-0 in boys’ football as the Kwale county Term Two B got underway at Msambweni and Nganja grounds on Thursday.

Defending champions Waa Boys High School also got a rude shock losing 3-2 to Ramisi Secondary in another encounter at the same venue. The victors drew first blood in the second minute when Juma Mashada struck from a goalmouth melee. Nine minutes later, Hamisi Rasa converted a penalty after a Waa defender handled the ball in the box for a 2-0 score in favour of Ramisi at the break.

Waa pulled one back in the 49th minute through Idd Mohammed but Rasa restored Ramisi’s two-goal cushion when he picked a lose ball on the left wing, dribbled past the entire defence to score with ease.

Mohammed, who had a good afternoon, ensured Waa Boys left with their heads held high when he completed his brace in the 65th minute.

Waa Boys coach Haruna Hamisi blamed the defeat on poor officiating. “I feel the referee did not do a good job especially by awarding the first goal and the dubious penalty. But we have to accept the match outcome and move on,” he said.

His opposite number coach Hassan Hamisi Blooba praised his charges for playing according to instructions.

“I know how they (Waa) play and had a game plan which worked perfectly well,” Blooba said.

Kaya Tiwi Secondary also made clear their intentions of winning the title with victory over hosts Msambweni in the opening match. Hamisi Mwaphalu struck in the 27th minute from Mamwanyor Abdullah’s defence splitting pass before Peter Odinga sealed victory with the second goal in the 57 minute.

In the only girls’ football match that had been played at the time of going to press, Moyeni Secondary School hit Kinondo Secondary School 1-0.

BITTER RIVALS

Msambweni were greatly boosted by Catherine Chepngetich, Purity Muthoni and Amina Mwaruwaa, who were members of the last year’s squad which won the regional trophy.

The eagerly awaited boys volleyball opening match between defending champions Mivumoni Secondary and their bitter rivals Tumaini Secondary failed to live up to the high expectations with Mivumoni clinching an easy 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-20) win.

Meanwhile, the Taita Taveta county games will kick off on Friday at Voi Secondary School, Voi Stadium and Mwangea Secondary School.
