There was increased optimism at the Harambee Stars training camp on Friday due to the presence of Norway-based goalkeeper Arnold Origi.

Origi was meant to feature for the national team in their last 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo away in Brazzaville but he missed the game due to “logistical problems”.

Gor Mahia goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch stepped in his shoes for that game and had a nervy performance as Kenya held the Congolese to a 1-1 draw.

That is why the rest of the team shared a light chuckle when Origi walked into the Mvuli House residential training at dawn yesterday, and they showed even more buoyancy during the morning training session.

Though the 31-year-old acknowledged that it would be a tough game, he vowed to give his best to ensure Stars win. Zambia were Afcon champions in 2012 so this is going to be a tough game whichever way you look at it. I however know my capabilities and I will give my best. If everyone gives their best then we can win it,” Origi said.

The Lillestorm goalkeeper also said that the presence of Kenyan internationals Victor Wanyama, Dennis Oliech and Lawrence Olum would motivate the team.

“These are very experienced players and their presence alone in the national team is enough motivation to the rest of us,” Origi said.

Football Kenya Federation chairman Sam Nyamweya had ditched his usual dark suit for a Harambee Stars track suit as he joined the team for the morning training session. He urged fans to turn up in large numbers to support the national team.

About 25, 000 tickets have been printed with 2, 000 for the VIP section, which will retail at Sh1, 000. The rest will be sold at Sh200 at the stadium from 10am.

This match will be preceded by a friendly encounter between the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Law Society of Zambia, which will be played today at 1.30pm.

The Chipolopolo arrived in the country yesterday evening, and they will be at the Nyayo Stadium venue at 4pm today for a feel of the pitch.
