Fast-rising youngster Prince Korasei Boit will captain the national Under-17 football team as they face Cameroon on Saturday in the return leg match of the Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations qualifier at the Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani.

Boit, a student at St. Austins School, will lead the team in their quest to gain qualification to the third round of the qualifiers. The Cup of Nations finals will be held in Madagascar early next year.

The junior Stars face a daunting task of overturning a 7-0 deficit they suffered in the first leg in Yaounde, Cameroon a fortnight ago.

Under German coach Andreas Spier, the national team held their last training session last morning at Kasarani and Boit has expressed optimism that they are capable of winning Saturday’s game.

“When we played against them away, it was difficult because they are older, but I believe we can beat them here. I have learnt a lot from the coach and, collectively, we are in better shape to deal with Cameroon,” the 16-year-old said.

Spier has warned against judging the young ones based on results from this match, saying that the work of moulding the team into a regional force will take time.

“This is a very young team and we still have a long way to go. We have played about five matches against other African teams so far, and I can tell that ours is the team that has the youngest players,” said Spier.
