U-20 lads rally to draw with Italy in friendly

Kenya’s Under-20 football team on Wednesday recovered from two goals down to draw 3-3 with Italy’s Under-18 side in a friendly match at Nyayo Stadium.

The visiting Italian Under-18 side however defied the age difference between them and their hosts to battle to a deserved draw the pulsating friendly match.

The Italians subjected the hosts to an early scare, racing to an early 2-0 lead before the hosts summoned courage to peg the scores at 3-3 at the final whistle.

Italy, who lined up in their trade mark blue jersey, scored their first goal in the 10th minute through danger man Moreno Riccardo who later claimed a brace in the 53rd minute to add to Zetinno Francesco's penalty in the 21st minute.

His opener was a neat glanced header from a free kick that proved too much for Kenyan custodian Farouk Shikalo and added the second in the 53rd minute before paving way for Cicerollo Andrea.

Kenya, coached by John Kamau and cheered by a handful of fans,  fielded three over-age players in Timonah Wanyonyi (Gor Mahia), David King’atua and Vincent Omumbo (both Thika United).

Kenya scored through through  King'atua who converted a deflected shot by Victor Ndinya before Wanyonyi added the second in the 49th minute. King’atua had the final word with the third goal in  the 61st minute.
