“All players have secured their travelling documents and we are going there with a positive mindset. Our aim is to win so as to reduce pressure on us in the second leg,” he said.

The 25-man Kenyan delegation, which has 18 players, four members of the technical bench and three officials from the federation, will travel aboard EgyptAir for the Sunday fixture under coach Bobby Williamson.

Williamson has admitted that the match has come at a bad time for his team but they will seek to win.

“We have had some difficulties preparing the team because most of our key players had to respond to club duty so our training sessions were many times disjointed and irregular. We are aware that Egypt is a very strong team but the entire team is upbeat and we are aiming at a win,” he said.

The Under-23 team will be without seven key players, among them Bernard Odhiambo, Collins Shivachi, Enoch Agwanda, Micahel Olunga and Danson Kago. but Williamson remains hopeful of positive results.

Back home, the women’s national team Harambee Starlets will play Egypt in a friendly match on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County.
