Kenya starts camp for U-20 Women’s WC qualifiers

The Kenya Under-20 women’s football team is expected in camp on Sunday to prepare for their Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Botswana.

The provisional 33-strong squad will camp in Machakos before they are trimmed down to 23 players who will take on the Zebras of Botswana at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

It is still unclear who will handle the national team as coach, but Football Kenya Federation have indicated that all those announcements will be made in good time.

“This is a team we assembled just recently, and this is the first time they are meeting to prepare for an assignment. The name and identity of the coach will be announced soon, and the coach will then appoint the team captain,” Football Kenya Federation communication officer Barry Otieno said on Saturday.

The junior team players that were selected early this year from various secondary schools in the country, and they are scheduled to represent Kenya in a tournament in The Kingdom of Jordan this September.

Soccer Queens striker Corazone Aquino and Thika Queens defender Wincate Kaari are the notable players in the squad.

They have duo featured for the senior national team.

Five members of the squad are capped by Kenya.

They featured for the junior national team against America’s Division One side FC Lynch Burg in a friendly match last month in Machakos. Impressive Kenya thumped the tourists 4-1.
