What you need to know:

  • Pool 'B' has St Peters Nanga, Kisumu Boys, Xaverian School and Lions.

Kisumu Day coach Dan Otieno says he is focused on avoiding last years’ heartache of failing to reach the final of the Kenya Secondary Schools Term Two 'B' Games where they lost at semi-final stage to eventual winners Passenga Boys.

The Lake region champions kick off this year’s campaign at their back yard where they have been pooled against Kisumu South Secondary, Joel Omino and Victory Christian in Group A of Kisumu County Milimani zone competition that gets underway on Saturday.

“Just like any other team, last year we were unlucky to allow Passenga to eliminate us on penalties. This year, we are working hard on winning matches as early as possible,” Otieno said.

Pool 'B' has St Peters Nanga, Kisumu Boys, Xaverian School and Lions.

In girls’ football, favourites Kisumu Girls, Victory Christian and Joel Omino will battle for supremacy in Pool 'A' while Xaverian, Lions and St Peters Nanga will cross swords in Pool 'B'.

The same pooling will apply for volleyball matches.

The prospects of hosting the nationals later in August will motivate Kisumu Day to to achieve their goals according to Otieno.

“We have always believed in ourselves and that will be no different this year. Early preparations will be key to our success, something we want to emulate as work starts."
