This season's KPL Super Cup pitting league champions Tusker and runners-up Gor Mahia will be played on Sunday, March 5 at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, the league body announced on Friday.

This is the match that traditionally ushers in the new Premier league season, and it pits the winners of the league against the domestic cup holders. Tusker won both competitions last season and as per the rules they will take on the team that finished second in the league.

It had been initially slated for January 29 at the Nyayo National Stadium, but was postponed indefinitely after a standoff pitting the league organisers and Football Kenya Federation caused the uncertainty over the league’s kick off date.

“The league will kick off next weekend so we have chosen to let the Super Cup be played this weekend as opposed to have it played during a weekday.

“The two clubs had been informed prior to this that they may be required to play this weekend so I am sure they had prepared themselves adequately and I do not expect any resistance from them,” KPL Leagues and Competitions Manager Michael Kirwa said on Friday.

Bandari beat Gor Mahia 1-0 in last year’s edition.

KPL on Friday heeded to the Sports Disputes Tribunal order and relased this season’s fixtures with matches set to get underway on March 11.
