Leopards floor Homeboyz, Western Stima demolish Fresha

Former champions AFC Leopards on Sunday beat Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 at Mumias Sports Complex to advance to the second round of the GOtv Shield tournament.

Yusuf Suf, a former City Stars striker, scored an easy header to put Ingwe ahead. New signing John Ndirangu was also on target.

However, it was young sensation Jack Bruno who delivered a man of the match performance against the Homeboyz, delivering the assists that helped Ingwe advance.

Homeboyz assistant coach Peter Okidi was sent off for badmouthing referee Hajj Adede.

At the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Kennedy Agogo claimed a second half brace to add to Maurice Ojwang and Kenneth Mugambi’s goals as Western Stima mauled third-tier side Fresha FC 4-0.

Ojwang opened the account for the hosts in the 12th minute from a corner kick before Agogo added two goals in the 60th and 77th minute, respectively. Mugambi completed the rout in the 86th minute.

EFFORTS PAID OFF

In Mombasa, Modern Coast Rangers FC beat Tiki FC from Taveta 5-1. Former Sofapaka striker Benjamin Rashid opened scores in the 24th minute.

George Owino netted the second in the 15th minute before Samuel Kizito Ate scored their third goal eight minutes later.

Tiki fought back gallantly and it was no surprise when in their efforts paid off in the 41st minute through a Ian Kanani strike. Ate stretched lead for Rangers to completed a brace with the fourth goal on the stroke of half time.

In the second half, Tiki tried avoid heavy defeat but Athman Bori found the back of the net for Rangers’ fifth goal with four minute to go.

Before the match started, both teams observed a one minutes silence for Rangers’ goalkeeper Salim Suleiman Omar alias Anjari who passed away on Tuesday  night after a short illness.
