What you need to know:

  • Gor Mahia, missing the services of first-choice goalkeeper and captain Jerim Onyango through shoulder injury, held out for the better part of first-half but Esperance soon found a way past K’Ogalo’s defence to score the first goal at the stroke of half-time.
  • On Sunday, AFC Leopards drew 2-2 with South Africa’s SuperSport United in the second leg of the first round match of the Caf Confederations Cup. Leopards, however, lost 4-2 on aggregate to the South Africans to exit the tournament.

Tunisian club Esperance Sportive de Tunis on Monday drubbed Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia 5-0 in a one-sided second leg, first round match of the Caf Africa Champions League at the Stade Olympique de Rades in Tunnis.

Gor Mahia, missing the services of first-choice goalkeeper and captain Jerim Onyango through shoulder injury, held out for the better part of first-half but Esperance soon found a way past K’Ogalo’s defence to score the first goal at the stroke of half-time.

The hard-working Iheb Msakni gave the hosts a deserved lead on the stroke of half-time and Heithem Jouini then made it 2-0 six minutes after the break after driving home a pass from Iheb Mbarki.

AFFUL'S GOAL
Ghanian Harrison Afful then made it three-nil to the North Africans before further goals from Msakni and Idriss Mrihisi completed the rout that saw the Kenyan team lose the tie 8-2 on aggregate.

The tie had been rescheduled to Monday from Sunday due to heavy rains that had rendered the playing surface unplayable.

This result confirms the exit of both Kenyan teams from the continental stage this season.

On Sunday, AFC Leopards drew 2-2 with South Africa’s SuperSport United in the second leg of the first round match of the Caf Confederations Cup. Leopards, however, lost 4-2 on aggregate to the South Africans to exit the tournament.
