Mathare United on Sunday shocked Gor Mahia 1-0 in an entertaining SportPesa Premier League match played at the Thika County stadium.

Incidentally, Gor were particularly undone by a double assault prepared by two of their former youth teams players in the frame of Clive Nyakeya and Derrick Onyango.

The goal arrived just after the hour mark, when Nyakeya reacted quickest to meet a through ball from Onyango on the edge of the opponent's D-Area. The midfielder then took a single touch with his right boot, weighed his options and unleashed an unstoppable shot that easily beat Gor goallie Boniface Oluoch at the far post.

Rwandan midfielder Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza would however have to shoulder a fair share of the blame for his slow reaction in the up to the goal.

Despite a myriad of attacks thereafter, especially from Gor attackers Meddie Kagere, Francis Kahata, Geoffrey Walusimbi and later on substitute Oliver Maloba, Gor failed to find an equalizer and consequently got condemned to their second league defeat of the season.

This is a result that best highlights our potential and capability, one that we intend to use to build our confidence within the new players and kick start our campaign with," Mathare's stand in coach Salim Ali, who is holding brief for the suspended Francis Kimanzi, explained.

Later on, Thika United settled for a one-all draw with visiting Western Stima at the same venue.
