Aspirants eyeing top seats in the forthcoming AFC Leopards elections have called for a speedy conclusion to the exercise.

The Kenyan Premier League giants are currently led by an interim committee which was handed the mandate by the Sports Tribunal in January.

The committee's term is however set to expire next month, and the Tribunal has already put in place an Elections Board to oversee the exercise which will bring in fresh leaders.

The club's co-chairman Matthews Opwora on Wednesday called on the Elections Board to fast-track the process so that the club can get new officials.
"We need elections as soon as possible. This committee arrangement isn't working. It has even affected the team's performance," lamented Opwora.

Former Football Kenya Federation vice president Robert Asembo, who is also seeking the top seat noted: "We need to have elections this month. There are crucial activities like player recruitment which need be done in June, and we cannot mix such with a sensitive matter such as elections."

The club's current treasurer Maurice Amawa, who is also seeking the chairmanship, asked for due process be followed in the electioneering process.

"There is no need for the rush. We first need to register fresh members and so as to have a new register to use during the elections," Amawa said.
