What you need to know:

  • Khamati has enjoyed a fine start to life at the brewers since he arrived at the beginning of the season, and he is currently the club’s top scorer with six goals.
  • Khamati becomes the fourth beneficiary of the award after James Situma (February), Humphrey Mieno (March) and goalkeeper David Okello (April).

Tusker striker Michael Khamati was on Tuesday named the club’s Player of the Month for May. While the club won only two of their four fixtures in the Kenyan Premier League last month, Khamati’s contribution caught the eye of the club’s managers.

In a brief awards ceremony held at the team’s Ruaraka grounds, Khamati was awarded a Sh50,000 shopping voucher by Tusker marketing manager Arriane Okong’o as a token of appreciation for his contribution to the team.

The former AFC Leopards forward – who didn’t find the back of the net but had an assist in May - said his focus is now on performing even better in the second leg of the Kenyan Premier League.

“I am happy here. I am getting a lot of play time and these players are like my brothers. Together we have worked so far and because the club recognises our efforts, I am encouraged to work even harder. “This year I don’t want to chase any personal targets. I want to focus all my energy into making sure that we win the league title. Of course that will not be easy but the fact that we are currently at the top means that it can be done,” he said.
