What you need to know:

  • The coach’s assistant, James Nandwa, who took charge of the team during the match against Ethiopia, is the only person to have attempted to explain the coach’s absence.
  • A source within the team who wished not to be named for fear of victimization, alleged that the team’s preparations in the run up-to the game against Ethiopia had not been the best owing to cash-flow problems.

Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche resumed duty Thursday morning, after conspicuously missing from the dugout during Kenya’s opening match against Ethiopia on Wednesday evening.

The Belgian tactician led an hour-long training session with the players, and later chaired a closed door meeting of the entire squad.

The coach’s assistant, James Nandwa, who took charge of the team during the match against Ethiopia, is the only person to have attempted to explain the coach’s absence.

“The coach has a stomach problem but will definitely be available for our next game,” Nandwa said.

However, investigations by Nation Sport point to the fact that all might not be rosy in the national team’s camp, a situation that could have prompted Amrouche’s absence.

A source within the team who wished not to be named for fear of victimization, alleged that the team’s preparations in the run up-to the game against Ethiopia had not been the best owing to cash-flow problems.

“Their are concerns because the coach says he has not been paid his salary for the past few months. All is not well.

The players have also not been paid their training allowances since reporting to camp this past week,” the source claimed.

“(Lack of) Money is not supposed to lead to one absconding duty,” FKF vice chairman Robert Asembo said. He said all issues had been discussed.
