Mombasa squad off to Bungoma for national championships

Mombasa region’s squad of 88 boys and girls and 17 officials left today morning for primary schools national Term Two ball games which kick off in Bungoma this week.

While releasing names of selected players to represent the region in Bungoma Saturday, Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association (KPSSA) Coast branch secretary, Robert Makomere exuded confidence the teams would do well at the championships.

Best squad

“We’ve selected the best squad. All the players in the team are on top form and we hope to win in Bungoma and return home with trophies,” said Makomere, who was flanked by the region’s KPSSA chairman, Mbalo Rashid at Ziwani School for the Deaf.

Coast squad: Boys’ football team: Chengo Mwahanya, Fikirini Masha, Elvis Amani, Hussein Bashir, Kitsao Ngumbao, Omar Ali, Mohamed Ali (Kilifi), Ali Kauli, Yahya Omar, Salim Ramtu, Kibwana Edward, Hashim Mwasefu, Ali Chibwembe (Kwale), Kibwana Mzee, Abdalla Juma (Mombasa), Davis Maro, Hassan Hamadi (Tana River), Sheiza Khamis (Taita Taveta) and Feisal Omar (Lamu).

Coach: Ali Ng’ang’a. Girls’ football: Mary Bahati, Purity Tisho, Dama Mwalimu, Mnyanzi Taura, Dama Ngari, Karembo Baya, Shama Thoya, Mensap Said, Amina Randu (Kilifi), Teresia Gakii, Rahab Mwagandi, Mwanahamisi Hamisi, Manal Abdat, Rukiya Kombo (Mombasa), Asha Omar, Sarah Njuguna (Lamu), Kache Mwatela (Taita Taveta) and Kang’ombe Mang’aro (Kwale).

Coach: Victor Murithi. Boys’ netball: Naftali Otieno, Elvis Sabwa, Hamza Omar, Philemon Odhiambo (Mombasa), Khamis Ngala, Kelvin Chai, Ushindi Joseph (Kilifi), Mukala Mwaega and Kilonzo Mwanzia (Kwale).

Coach: Florence M Omwega. Netball girls: Margaret Kitsao, Sidi Kenga, Mutheu Muia, Risca Kadzo (Kilifi), Rehema Shughuli, Riadha Kassim, Mwanamkasi Henzi (Kwale), Leah Daniel (Lamu) and Linet Atieno (Mombasa). Coach: Rebecca Mwarogo. Boys’ volleyball: Emmanuel Alex, Joseph Gongo, Kitsao Kazungu, Stephen Kabichi, Kahindi Katana (Kilifi), Yusuf Hassan, Ibrahim Shahame, Mohamed Hajj (Kwale) and Juma Joseph (Taita Taveta). 

Coach: Felix Ndurya. Girls’ volleyball: Margaret Mranzi, Vivian Pendo, Brigit Ngojo (Kilifi), Tina Wonge, Fatuma David (Taita Taveta), Mwanakombo Shebani (Mombasa) Mwanahamisi Salim and Mwanahamisi Said (Kwale).

Coach: Alex Masha. Boys’ handball: Kiema Taavu, Ali Abbas, Leonard Mwema, Mumba Mohamed (Mombasa), Wilson Mwanyoka, Chris Isaac, Yusu Kai (Kilifi) and Rashid Kigwe (Kwale).

Coach: Titus Karimi. Girls’ handball: Loice Nyondo, Saumu Juma, Farida Harouna (Mombasa), Nelly Chengo, Rita Maris, Khadija Kidzange (Kilifi), Chizi Mangale (Kwale) and Neema Nzai (Taita Taveta).
